Headteacher's Welcome Message

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the website of Rattray Primary School. Some of you may already be familiar with our school, others we welcome for the first time.

The basic aim of Rattray Primary School is to provide the best education possible for all our pupils. We are very proud of our school and the warm, positive ethos it provides. Learning is at the heart of everything we do.  We understand the importance of creating an environment which is secure, trusting, productive and happy, where our pupils can achieve their potential through learning experiences that are enjoyable and purposeful, and which take account of an individual’s needs and interests. At Rattray, we aim to provide a broad and balanced curriculum, which enhances the all-round development of our pupils. We also recognise the importance of developing the qualities and skills necessary for children to cope and indeed thrive in an ever-changing world.

Rattray is a very special school with a real family feel about it.  You notice our school vision 'together we all can'.  This was developed with parents and pupils and emphasises our focus on working in partnership with parents/carers and our local community. At Rattray we strive to promote and develop our core values which are Learning, Included, Nurtured and Kind.  If you notice, the first letter of these values spell out LINK.  We work hard to help  children make links across their learning and to make sure that we, as a school link with our parent groups, our partner services and our fantastic community.

Welfare Rights Support

Just a little reminder we will have a Welfare Rights Officer in the school on Wednesday 6th May from 9am to 11am so you can drop-in and have a confidential chat about your circumstances. None of your personal information will be shared with any school staff whatsoever. The Welfare Rights Team are accredited to the Scottish National Standards for Information and Advice Providers and cannot share your information without consent.

The Welfare Rights Team provides a free, confidential and impartial welfare rights service with advice, assistance and representation on all aspects of the benefits system and we’d encourage all our families to seek advice on their entitlements. Many entitlements can be paid whilst in work and some are also non-means-tested and income and capital is not taken into account.

If you’d prefer to seek advice out with the school environment then please do not hesitate to contact the Welfare Rights Team either by using their online referral form @ www.pkc.gov.uk/wrt or by calling 01738 476900 (option 1).
You can also follow them on Facebook “PKC Welfare Rights Team”

St Johnstone FC – Complimentary Match Tickets for Families

We are pleased to share information from St Johnstone Football Club, who have very kindly offered complimentary tickets to primary school families for an upcoming home match.

The match will take place on Thursday 24th April, and St Johnstone FC are keen to welcome families along to enjoy a game together as the football season draws to a close. A letter from the club with further details is attached.

We are aware that this is being shared just before the Easter holiday break, but we hope families may still have time to take advantage of this generous offer.

We hope you have a lovely Easter break and that some of our school community are able to enjoy a day out at the match.

PARENT COUNCIL PVG REQUEST

PLEASE SEE BELOW IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM OUR PARENT COUNCIL

Hello Rattray Parents/Carers,

As mentioned in the last school newsletter, thanks to updated legislation we now need any parents attending fundraising events where children are present (e.g. discos) to undergo PVG checks. Even if a parent/carer has another PVG in place with the school or another organisation, we would still need to go through PVG checks for the Parent Council. While this can be frustrating, we want to make sure we are doing what is right by the children and their safety.

The information we would need would be the same as what Mrs Robertson previously requested for any school trip helpers, so I have attached the form which has been previously sent out. Although the form requests 3 forms of ID, so long as one of the ID's is a Photo ID only 2 would be required:

You are required to check at least 1 form of Photo ID and 1 form of Address ID.  Where no Photo ID is available, please check 2 forms of Address ID and 1 additional ID document (e.g. a birth certificate).  Please note that a PVG certificate cannot be used as ID.

Anyone wishing to submit an application should return the completed form along with scanned/photographed IDs to kmdavidson@hotmail.com .

We would like to reiterate the fact that we really do appreciate any and all helpers we can get to run events like the discos. While we can just about get by if all Parent Council members are able to attend, next year we will be down by 3 council members and without support from other parents/carers we will not be able to run the discos. This would be a real shame as the children have a brilliant time at them and DJ Kylie might need to retire her DJ decks/microphones! Parents without PVG checks will not be allowed in the building - so even if in the past you came along purely to be there for your own child, this will no longer be allowed without a PVG in place.

If anyone has any questions around the PVG checks I am happy to answer them. The next disco is planned for Thursday 30th April and the checks can take up to 14 days to complete, so please bear this in mind.

Regards,
Kirsty Cookson
